Tea Runners Subscription Box

Tea Runners Subscription Box

On chilly New England mornings, I love to put my tea kettle on the stove, wrap a soft scarf around my neck, then settle down with a steaming cup of tea while I write.  It’s my morning ritual and it sets the tone for my whole day.  I also love to have a cup of tea right before my kids get home from school.  Whenever possible, I let myself have a half hour to read a book and enjoy some tea before the afternoon gets crazy with homework, sports, and making dinner. I find it resets my day.  I love to try new teas, but I seem to always go back to the same ones.  Tea Runners is a monthly tea subscription box that makes new choices for you and delivers them right to your door.

What do I love about this box?

Tea Runners source their tea leaves and ingredients from the finest farms and produce their fresh blends in small batches to achieve the highest qualities. I love that they understand not everyone loves surprises, so they send an email notifying what teas are coming the following month and the will happily make substitutions. I also love that they include tasting notes along with brewing instructions.  Not all teas are brewed the same way and if you follow their instructions you’ll get the perfect cup of tea.

What comes in each box?

Each month you receive four pouches of tea containing roughly 1 oz of tea.  This is enough to make 30-50 cups of tea, depending on the type of tea and how strong you like it.

What came in my box?

First of all, Tea Runners gives you 4 tea boxes to choose from:

Original: Contains a variety of teas.  This is the most popular box.

Pure Tea: No blends, herbal, or flavored tea.

All Black Tea: Includes pure black tea as well as blended black tea.

Herbal: All caffeine-free herbal teas such as chamomiles, peppermints, and honeybush.

So, what did I get?

SALTY CARAMEL PUMPKIN BLACK:

I wish you could smell this tea and the caramel aroma that starts as soon as you pour your hot water on the leaves.  This tea is perfect for these chilly New Hampshire mornings we’ve been having.  You probably don’t need anything extra in this tea, but I added a little cream to it.  It is medium-high caffeine.

WHITE PEARLS:

This tea has a cotton candy sweetness to it and is a great tea for reading a book in the afternoon.  It doesn’t need any milk or sugar so it’s a quick tea to prepare.  It was also the most fun one to prepare because the pearls open into loose tea leaves.  My girls though it was so cool to watch them transform.  It has medium caffeine.

EARL GREY LAVENDER:

This tea was so yummy and had a citrus taste to it even though it must have been the lavender blossoms I was tasting.  One of my favorite drinks at my local coffee shop is a lavender almond milk latte and I can’t wait to recreate it with this tea.    It has high caffeine so it’s great to drink in the morning to get me moving.

YUNNAN BLACK GOLD:

This tea has subtle notes of cocoa and a peachy tartness.  Again, it doesn’t need any milk or sugar.  I drank it black one afternoon and the next day I drank it over ice with a little bit of cream.

Tips for making the perfect cup of tea:

Use good water.

Measure your tea.

Time the steep.

Allow for leaf expansion.

Follow the water temperature guide.  Not all teas use boiling water.

Taste your tea before adding milk, sugar, or honey.  It may be fine just the way it is.

Try having it iced.  It changes the flavor.

Try different teas than you usually buy.  You may end up finding a favorite!
