Itinerary for Grand Cayman

Sunset in Grand Cayman

When we traveled to Grand Cayman we had one thing in mind…get away from the depressing lovely piles of New Hampshire snow.  We wanted to soak in the sunshine and play in the sand.  We did a few outings but the beach was our main agenda.  Here is our 5-day itinerary for Grand Cayman:

Where do you fly in?

The best place to fly in is Owen Roberts International Airport

Where did we stay?

We rented an amazing condo at the Regal Beach Club. There were 2 pools and right on the stunning Seven Mile Beach.  The beaches were never crowded and the sand was powder white.

DAY 1

We always spend the first full day enjoying our hotel and spending time in the sun and sand with our family.  Splash in the pool or head to the closest beach and soak up all the sunshine!

After playing in the sun we had to do a few errands. Since we stayed at a condo, we went to the market to load up on local food to make for breakfasts and lunches. We found a farmer’s market and bought delicious local fruit and vegetables.

After lunch, we rented jet skis on 7 Mile Beach.

Dinner:  Deckers Caribbean Grill   This is a fun beach bar where you can sit with your feet right in the sand.

DAY 2

Our morning was spent by the pool before heading out to do some exploring.

Lunch: Macabuca Oceanside Tiki Bar and Grill  Your stunning view of the rustic coast line is of jagged rocks with waves crashing on them.  Try the conch chowder.

After lunch we walked across the street to the Cayman Turtle Center.  Learn all about these adorable animals and even get to hold some baby turtles.  The farm also has sharks, colorful birds, and fish.  You can also snorkel here, but we didn’t do it.

Dinner:  Cracked Conch  This was one of the most beautiful outdoor settings I have ever eaten at in the Caribbean.  Ask for a table near the edge of the water so you can watch the night divers.

DAY 3

We did a fun 3-hour boat excursion that stopped at Stingray City, where we swam with stingrays at a sandbar.  We also stopped at two different places to snorkel, including the Barrier Reef.

Dinner: Agua Restaurant It looks fancy but is actually very kid-friendly.  The seafood was so fresh and it had incredible cocktails.

Today was another pool/beach day.

If you feel like an excursion, go on a boat tour that takes you to Starfish Point, a sandbar where hundreds of red starfish live in the crystal-clear water.

Tips for a Great Trip to Grand Cayman

-Eat as much local fish as possible.  We loved eating the grouper, wahoo, and sea bass.

-Get out on the water…diving, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, etc.  They have breathtaking coral reefs.

-Don’t go to Hell (a town that tourists flock to for some reason.)

-Money is in CI.

-It’s a VERY expensive island…excursions, cabs, and food.

-Don’t do a Stingray City excursion if the water is choppy and most kids can’t stand at the sandbar.  It can be scary for husbands  kids when the large stingrays come up to them.
