Cooper Island, BVI

Cooper Island is one of the most relaxing and family-friendly stops on a British Virgin Islands catamaran itinerary. Located just east of Tortola, this small island is known for calm waters, excellent snorkeling, and the eco-conscious Cooper Island Beach Club, which becomes the social heart of the anchorage.

Where Is Cooper Island & Why Sailors Love It

Cooper Island sits near the southeastern edge of the BVI and is an easy sail from Norman Island or The Baths. The island feels quieter and more laid-back than some of the busier stops, which makes it ideal for families with teens who want downtime without being bored. Everything here is close together — snorkel spots, the beach club, and moorings — so it’s an easy place to settle in and relax.

Moorings at Cooper Island: First Come, First Serve

Cooper Island uses National Parks Trust (NPT) moorings, and they are first come, first serve with no reservations available.

The mooring field is large but fills up quickly during peak season.

Arriving by early afternoon is recommended, especially during holidays.

This setup makes Cooper Island approachable for families and newer sailors.

Snorkeling & Swimming Off the Boat

One of the best parts of Cooper Island is how easy it is to enjoy the water. Teens can swim and snorkel right off the back of the catamaran, often spotting fish and rays close to the boat.

Cooper Island Beach Club: Rum Bar, Microbrewery & Dining

The Cooper Island Beach Club is a highlight of this stop. The rum bar features one of the largest rum selections in the Caribbean, while the microbrewery adds a fun, unexpected twist. Families love that the vibe is social but relaxed — teens can hang out by the beach while adults enjoy a drink.

Norman Island, BVI

If you’re sailing the British Virgin Islands, Norman Island is almost always one of the first stops — and for good reason. It’s close to Tortola, packed with great snorkeling, and home to some of the most iconic spots in the BVI. For families traveling with teens, Norman Island strikes the perfect balance between adventure, history, and just plain fun.

Where Is Norman Island & Why It’s So Popular

Norman Island is located just south of Tortola and is often considered the gateway stop on a BVI sailing itinerary. Legend has it that this island helped inspire Treasure Island, and once you’re there, it’s easy to see why — hidden coves, dramatic rock formations, and clear turquoise water everywhere you look. The island itself is uninhabited, which gives it a wild, untouched feel, but the anchorages are lively and social, especially in the afternoons.

For first-time sailors and families, Norman Island is an easy and exciting introduction to island hopping in the British Virgin Islands.

25 Books I Want to Read in 2026

Book with vase and tea

I’m already daydreaming about 2026… and apparently, about a LOT of books (and a few audio books too). Whether it’s getting lost in a thrilling novel, learning something new while on a road trip, or letting an audiobook keep me company on long flights, reading is my kind of adventure. I’ve rounded up 25 books I can’t wait to dive into this year—some will make me laugh, some will make me think, and a few will transport me to places I’ve never been. Pack your bookmarks and take a peek at 25 Books I Want to Read in 2026!

My Friends

Fredrik Backman

My Friends, Fredrik Backman

My Friends by Fredrik Backman: Most people don’t even notice them—three tiny figures sitting at the end of a long pier in the corner of one of the most famous paintings in the world. Most people think it’s just a depiction of the sea. But Louisa, an aspiring artist herself, knows otherwise, and she is determined to find out the story of these three enigmatic figures.

Twenty-five years earlier, in a distant seaside town, a group of teenagers find refuge from their bruising home lives by spending long summer days on an abandoned pier, telling silly jokes, sharing secrets, and committing small acts of rebellion. These lost souls find in each other a reason to get up each morning, a reason to dream, a reason to love.

Out of that summer emerges a transcendent work of art, a painting that will unexpectedly be placed into eighteen-year-old Louisa’s care. She embarks on a surprise-filled cross-country journey to learn how the painting came to be and to decide what to do with it. The closer she gets to the painting’s birthplace, the more nervous she becomes about what she’ll find. Louisa is proof that happy endings don’t always take the form we expect in this stunning testament to the transformative, timeless power of friendship and art.

The Names

Florence Knapp

The Names,

The Names by Florence Knapp: In the wake of a catastrophic storm, Cora sets off with her nine-year-old daughter, Maia, to register her son’s birth. Her husband, Gordon, a local doctor, respected in the community but a terrifying and controlling presence at home, intends for her to name the infant after him. But when the registrar asks what she’d like to call the child, Cora hesitates…

Spanning thirty-five years, what follows are three alternate and alternating versions of Cora’s and her young son’s lives, shaped by her choice of name. In richly layered prose, The Names explores the painful ripple effects of domestic abuse, the messy ties of family, and the possibilities of autonomy and healing.

Nothing More to Tell

Karen M. McManus

Nothing More to Tell Karen M. McManus

Nothing More to Tell by Karen M. McManus: Four years ago, Brynn left Saint Ambrose School following the shocking murder of her favorite teacher—a story that made headlines after the teacher’s body was found by three Saint Ambrose students in the woods behind their school. The case was never solved. Now that Brynn is moving home and starting her dream internship at a true-crime show, she’s determined to find out what really happened.

The kids who found Mr. Larkin are her way in, and her ex–best friend, Tripp Talbot, was one of them. Without his account of events, the other two kids might have gone down for Mr. Larkin’s murder—but instead, thanks to Tripp, they’re now at the top of the Saint Ambrose social pyramid. Tripp’s friends have never forgotten what Tripp did for them that day, and neither has he. Just like he hasn’t forgotten that everything he told the police was a lie.

Digging into the past is bound to shake up the present, and when Brynn begins to investigate what happened in the woods that day, she uncovers secrets that might change everything—about Saint Ambrose, about Mr. Larkin, and about her ex-best friend, Tripp Talbot.
