If you live in New England and have a teen that loves theater, then Boston is the perfect destination for a getaway. Plays, musicals, bands… Boston has it all! Here is an itinerary for an amazing day in Boston with teens:
Check In
First stop is to drop off your bags at Kimpton Nine Zero hotel. This boutique hotel has it all…gorgeous rooms, elegant charm, and one of the most desirable locations in the heart of Boston. I recommend a City Skyline 2 Queen Beds room. The room has personal touches that give it historic charm while keeping modern amenities. (Check out a review of our stay!)
Look at the stunning view we had!
New England Aquarium
Time to head to your first destination…the New England Aquarium. Before you even go in, stop to spend some time with the adorable Atlantic harbor seals.
Then head inside to spend an hour or two strolling through the aquarium. Make sure you stop in to the Shark and Ray Touch Tank so you can touch cownose rays, Atlantic rays, and epaulette sharks.
After the aquarium, you may want to see a movie at The Simons Theatre. It is right next door to the aquarium and the movie is projected on a screen that’s six stories high. Each show is around 20 minutes long. TAKE A PEEK at what’s playing right now.
Time for Lunch
By now you may be hungry, so walk over to Quincy Market to poke around at the stores and have lunch. There are 18 restaurants and 35 colonnade eateries of all cuisines.
What food should you try while in Boston?
Lobster Roll
Boston Baked Beans with Brown Bread
Clam Chowder
Boston Cream Pie
Time to walk off some of that yummy lunch!
Brattle Books
Walk over to Brattle Book Shop. It is a fabulous book store that sells both used and new books. It is a book lover’s dream as they have over 200,000 books. The location is what you’ve got to see… tucked in an stunning ancient alley. Get lost in the stacks of books and find some hidden gems.
A Stroll in the Park
Next stop is Boston Common, the backyard of many Bostonians. Wander around and take in the beauty.
What can you do in the Boston Commons?
Have a picnic on the grass
Walk the Freedom Trail
Go ice skating in winter
Kids will love the Frog Pond spray pool during warm months
Ride the Carousel
Go for a stroll
Photo Opps
Next stop is Acorn Street, one of the most Instagram-friendly streets of Boston. Let your teen take as many selfies as they’d like.
Dinner
There are so many places to dine in Boston. Since we stayed at Nine Zero, they recommended a delicious restaurant around the corner called Mast. During nice weather, you can dine outside and take in all the cool architecture of the city. I recommend the Truffle Raviolis.
Now it’s time to catch a show!
The Nine Zero is about a 10-minute walk to some of the best theaters in Boston. We loved seeing Hadestown! Take a PEEK HERE at what’s coming to Boston.
One Last Stop
Before heading back to the hotel, make a stop at Insomnia Cookies for some late-night treats! Check out THEIR WEBSITE HERE.
Time to head back to the Nine Zero for a good night sleep.
Goodnight Boston!
