Martha & Marley Spoon

On Tuesday, I told you about Dinnerly, a meal kit made for people who like cooking at home, at affordable prices, and without having to shop for all the ingredients.  Today I wanted to show you another option for breakfasts or snacks, called Martha & Marley Spoon.

Why would a traveler want to try Martha & Marley Spoon?

Our mornings get a little crazy because the girls sometimes have before-school activities, and it’s nice to get a little help.  The week I received the box I was in full planning mode for our trip to Portugal, and breakfasts and snacks were the last thing on my mind.

I really think it would be a great solution for when you return from your trip, your fridge is empty, and you haven’t gotten your mind back to reality.

When I was asked if I wanted to sample Martha & Marley Spoon, I really just expected to get some packets of smoothie mix in the mail, but leave it to Martha Stewart to go over the top. Look at everything you get in the box!  What????

TIP I WOULD TRY NEXT TIME: I should have separated the ingredients and put them each in a bag with the recipe so I could grab it and have everything in one place.

What do I love about Martha & Marley Spoon?

The smoothies tasted delicious!

You can skip weeks if you want.

They give nutritional information.

They list ingredients that people may be allergic to.

The box was cold when it arrived and it was all well packaged.  None of the fruit were bruised.

They use fresh, quality ingredients.

You get beautiful recipe cards. It would be great to put them all in a binder and create your own smoothie cookbook that you can reuse.

What I wasn’t crazy about…

Instructions were hard to understand because they did not give exact measurements for each ingredient.  For example, if it said ‘honey,’ you had to look back and see if the other recipe also asked for honey, therefor you had to put in half.  It would have been helpful if it said ‘add 2 ounces of honey.’

I am trying to cut down on my carb intake and some of the recipes had up to 40 carbs!

The nutritional chart does not list how much sugar the smoothies have.  Since so many people are focusing on sugar intake, I would think that would be an important fact to list.

WHAT DO YOU GET EACH WEEK?

Martha & Marley Spoon’s menu includes 2 smoothie recipes a week. Each recipe features two smoothie flavors (one flavor suited for adults, one flavor suited for kids). Customers place orders by selecting the 2-person or 4-person plan. The 2-person plan provides ingredients and recipes that feed 2 people per flavor selected whereas the 4-person plan provides enough to feed 4 people per flavor selected.

WHAT KINDS OF SMOOTHIES DO THEY OFFER?

Click here to view the recipes that are available each week.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The smoothies are on their weekly menu, so customers can choose them as one of their recipes for their weekly meal kit delivery. Their plans range from $6.99 to $10.25 per serve.

HOW WERE THE PORTIONS?

There were definitely enough smoothies for 4 people.

SO, WHAT SMOOTHIES DID WE MAKE?

COCONUT KEY LIME PIE SMOOTHIE

My girls loved getting the lime zest ready and they put the whole smoothie together.

It felt like we were making a tropical drink.

It was delicious!

SCARLET REJUVENATION SMOOTHIE

I love apple, so I was happy it was an ingredient.

There were lots of citrus in this one.

It was so refreshing!

TROPICAL GREEN DETOX SMOOTHIE

This one was not a favorite of my kids but I liked it.  It would be good for breakfast or after a workout.

PINEAPPLE UPSIDE DOWN SMOOTHIE

I wish I had picture of this one but I wasn’t home when my girls made it.  However, they both loved it!
