Old Town Trolley: Hop-On Hop-Off your Way Through Boston

You know how I feel about driving in Boston… I’m such a chicken!  There are times I want to do different things around the city but I can only drive to the aquarium and the science museum (lol)! I then end up taking cabs so I don’t get to stop as much as I want.  Well I’ve found the perfect solution! For my birthday, the girls and I spent a perfect day in Boston on the Old Town Trolley Tour.  This hop-on hop-off bus allows you to get off at a stop when something strikes you or stay on the bus and continue hearing more historic commentary. It’s an amazing way to see Boston!

Here are some fun things you can do on this 15-stop tour:

STOP 1: We started our tour in front of the New England Aquarium (which is great since I can actually drive here and park…lol).  It’s a beautiful place to see the waterfront!

STOP 2: Since it was my birthday, I couldn’t think of a better way to start our day than a cannoli from Mike’s Pastry, so we got off at the North End.

You can also see the Paul Revere House and the Old North Church.

STOP 3:  USS Constitution

STOP 4: TD Garden

STOP 5: Dreamland Wax Museum.  We had so much fun here and the best part…it was FREE with our tour ticket!

We also decided to head to Faneuil Hall to have some lunch. (We ate at Mija Cantina and Tequila Bar and it was delicious! Amazing margaritas!)

STOP 6: Cambridge/ M.I.T/ Harvard

STOP 7: Charles Street/ Antique Row

STOP 8: Yeah…the original Cheers!

STOP 9: Prudential Center and Mapparium

STOP 10: Museum of Fine Arts

And the Isabella Gardner Museum (You could spend an entire day at these 2 places alone.)

STOP 11: Copley Place Mall

STOP 12: Trinity Church

And the Boston Public Library

STOP 13: Theater district

Boston Public Garden and the Swan Boats

STOP 14: Boston Common and the beginning of the Freedom Trail

STOP 15: Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum.  We had so much fun here! It was our first time doing it and I’m glad we made time for it today! (Keep an eye out for a post where I tell you all about it!)

There are also 3 other stops but you have to transfer over to them so we didn’t do that.

What else does the spring/summer ticket include?

1 day of unlimited re-boarding.

Free admission to the Old State House Museum (worth $12)

Free admission to Dreamland Wax Museum (worth $25)

Discount to the Boston Tea Party Museum (worth $7.50)

50% Discount to the Boston Harbor Cruises.

$50 worth of money saving discounts at local attractions, restaurants, and shops.

(Look online for info on their fall tickets!)

Tips for a great day on the tour:

There’s so much to do so you won’t have time to do it all.  Make a plan before you set out and take into consideration what everyone wants to do.

If you’re staying a few days in Boston, it’s a great way to get around, so I would purchase more than one day.

It takes a long time to do the whole tour (2 hours, I think) so if you want to see something, get off when you get there.

You can always hop back on if you change your mind about getting off.

A new trolley arrives every 15 minutes.

Bring a camera because there are endless photo opps.
