Jackson Falls

One of my favorite places to experience the amazing foliage of New Hampshire is Jackson Falls, a waterfall that cascades over smooth granite rocks into pools that create personal swimming pools for visitors.

One of our favorite memories of being in London was walking down the cobblestone streets on our way to a local pub and the sound of Big Ben stopping us in our tracks as we listened to the London legend toll.  For the last 157 years, Big Ben has captivated both locals and tourists every 4 hours.  However, at noon on August 21^st, 2017, Big Ben tolled for the last time before taking a much-needed break.  Elizabeth Tower, the 315-foot tower that holds Big Ben, is already covered in scaffolding so tourists may be surprised at it’s unexpected appearance.  The clock is getting cleaned and repaired, with every cog being dismantled and put back in place.  Although you will still be able to hear it on special occasions, like New Year’s Eve, you’ll have to wait until completion of the project, which will not be until 2021. But trust me…it will be worth the wait!

If you are in New England and looking for something fun to do this weekend, the Fairy House Festival in Portsmouth, New Hampshire has always been a favorite of ours.  On this 13th anniversary, more than 200 fairy houses built by creative professionals, community members, and students will be on display on the grounds of Strawbery Banke, the Governor John Langdon House, and in Prescott Park.

Many people think of Santorini as a honeymoon destination filled with starry-eyed newlyweds and wedding proposals around every corner. However, Santorini is actually an amazing destination for a family vacation and is filled with fun activities to do with your kids. There is no need for electronics to keep your kids entertained and never once did my kids say they were bored. Being in Santorini is like walking into a postcard and this concept is not lost on kids. When I envision a picturesque New England view, covered bridges immediately come to mind.  I go out of my way to drive over these historic structures and my girls always laugh and squeal when we go over them since it reminds them of the opening scene in the movie Beetlejuice.  My three favorites happen to be the ones we most go over when in the White Mountains.

New England is filled with quaint, picturesque towns, and Jackson, New Hampshire is one that should not be missed.  Jackson is 3 hours from Boston, 1 ½ hours from Portland, and a half hour from Conway.  Jackson Village has adorable places to eat, shop, and have coffee.  Your mood will be set as you pass through the covered bridge coming in to town.  The Wentworth Inn is the perfect destination for families, a girl’s getaway, or a romantic night away.

On our last night in Iceland we decided to stay somewhere that was close to the Blue Lagoon, our final activity before catching our flight.  The Northern Lights Inn is the perfect location to stay since it is located directly next door to the lagoon and is only a 5-minute walk.  We chose the inn based on location, but we were pleasantly surprised by how nice it was.  Located 20 minutes from Keflavik Airport and 45 minutes from Reykjavik, it is a wonderful starting point or final destination to get your barring before setting out to explore Iceland.  The dramatic landscape surrounding the inn is amazing!
